Huge amount of information and knowledge is available in forms of full text, multimedia as well as traditional ones, it is strongly desired to develop facilities to utilize the information and the knowledge to the maximal-extent. It is useful to organize information for its advanced utilization as in human brains which have capability to self-organize vast amount of information appropriately. One of the issues of using information is to process meanings which are closely related with the sophisticated functions such as learning, analogical reasoning, inductive inference, abduction, problem solving and so on. Automatic classification and intelligent access are straightforward application and are useful when they are used together with thesauri and taxonomies which represent conceptual structures. This paper describes the basic principles, formulation of a new information model with flexible representation of meaning, and the direction of applications to advanced research of science and technology.
