Intelligence Quota: What Puts the IQ Into CCTV?

This article looks at the application of video analytic technology to making closed circuit television (CCTV) more intelligent and thus more valuable to traffic control centers. Smart software used to eliminate unnecessary background imagery and focus on the salient aspects of the image can enhance vehicle classification, traffic monitoring, and incident management. Intelligent CCTV is designed to first analyze video information. Based on the analysis, alerts are created according to different events that might happen on a video image. This predictive aspect can be valuable in security and surveillance applications by identifying potential suspicious behavior. The article also discusses how Internet Protocol (IP) CCTV can allow for integration and connection to computer networks, thus enhancing surveillance capabilities. Examples of intelligent CCTV applications are included in the article.
