The Design of a Video Bandwidth Reduction System for Remote Pilotless Vehicles

This paper discusses the constraints imposed upon the design of a bandwidth compression system for use in an airborne remote pilotless vehicle. The technique of Constant Area Quantization, which has been proposed for this application, together with its limitations are described. Modifications to the basic system are proposed and results obtained from a computer simulation are presented. These indicate that both a reduced bit and a lower RMS error can be obtained.
