A simulated operating system for educational purposes

Abstract Educational courses that deal with operating systems are very varied. All computer manufacturers run courses describing their own systems for the benefit of their employees and the users of their computers. Naturally, these courses tend to be concerned with the functional aspects of the operating system and how to install and update the software. Very few manufacturers offer courses that deal with the internal structure of their operating software, and the reasons they were built as they were, and those who do aim the courses not at users but at their own systems engineers and programmers who will have the responsibility of developing and maintaining the operating software. In all these cases the courses focus on the proprietary systems and are not at all general in scope.
