Altus Hendriks is currently a fourth year BMus student at the University of Pretoria specialising in piano performance. His other subjects are theory and composition. He started his music education at the age of seven under the guidance of Christa Rust in a small mining settlement 50 kilometres South of Middelburg in Mpumalanga. She taught him piano, theory and composition. After completing his primary school education, Altus moved to Pretoria where he finished his secondary school years at Pro Arte Alphen Park in Pretoria. His music teachers, while studying there, included Dr Tessa Rhoodie and Martie Jansen van Vuuren (piano), Dr Ronelle Bosman and Elma Britz (theory and composition). Altus graduated from Pro Arte and obtained distinctions for his first and second instruments (piano and violin respectively).
