Computer-Aided Design of Cascade and Parallel Programmed Digital Filters Using Optimization Techniques

The co-efficients of Cascade and Parallel Programmed Low-pass Recursive Digital Filter based on the least square-error criterion are obtained using the Fletcher and Powell and Fletcher and Reeves methods of non-linear optimization techniques. The results obtained therein are subjected to constraints as suggested by Steiglitz. Flow chart used is given. Performance characteristics are obtained from the designed values in each of the configurations and optimization techniques for the single section (second order) and double section (fourth order) filter. Time taken for the design in each of these cases by the computer IBM System 360/44 are noted. They are compared.
