The primary objective of the research is to develop an efficient, reliable and secured routing mechanism for effective communication between any pair of source and destination and improve the Quality of Service (QoS) of the network, when subjected to topological changes. This routing mechanism can be adapted to all wireless ad hoc network applications to facilitate and satisfy the varying reliability and security requirements of each application. This routing mechanism is composed of two phases called route discovery and route maintenance. Route maintenance is usually classified to full reconstruction approach and partial reconstruction approach. In full reconstruction approach, when a node discovers a link cessation, it broadcasts a route error packet to its neighbours, which in turn propagates the route error packet towards the nodes whose routes are affected by the disconnected link. Then the affected source can re-initiate a route discovery operation and transfer data to its destination. In partial reconstruction approach, the routing protocol finds an alternate route during the route maintenance phase itself. As the rerouting technique of full reconstruction approach leads to enormous routing overhead, packet drop and latency, the partial reconstruction routing mechanism is considered in this work. The routing performance of the proposed mechanism is measured and compared by repeatedly simulating the network models using the network simulator. The modifications made in the route discovery and route maintenance schemes of the traditional AODV routing protocol in addition to the augmentation of the newly
