You can nurse a beloved tune for decades, repeating it over and over in your head, only to find that you have the words wrong. A friend of mine warbled Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze in the shower until he was middle-aged before discovering that his 'S'cuse me while I kiss this guy' was actually: 'S'cuse me while I kiss the sky.' Another music lover turned Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'There's a bad moon on the rise' into: 'There's a bathroom on the right.'
