A feature based comparison of stylus and finger based signature characteristics

Tablet devices have grown dramatically in popularity over recent years, bringing ubiquity in finger gesture-based interaction with computer systems. The requirements for security still remain, perhaps more so given the mobile nature of the devices. Dynamic signature verification (DSV) systems have a long history of providing robust biometric verification using tablet devices with a signer drawing a signature using a stylus. To explore the potential of employing DSV techniques when a user signs with their finger, we report the findings of our work to correlate stylus and finger generated features. This work indicates that there are a range of static and dynamic features that lead to interoperability between these input methods for use within a biometric context.
