Data are presented on both new and used G-M counters in terms of operational life, sensitivity, stability, and shape of the plateau of the counters. The counters were studied both with and without quenching circuits. Two types of quenching circuits were used, and the effectiveness of these were compared. The results demonstrate the importance of quenching circuits to good operational characteristics such as counter lifetime (in terms of counts), stability, and flatness of plateau. (TTT)
