Extraction from DP in Italian Revisited

Abstract The generalization that of all arguments and adjuncts only the subject can be extracted from a DP in Italian (and Romance, more generally) was a puzzle for the theory of the early ‘80s. It can however be seen to follow, today, from Relativized Minimality, the assumption that DPs are phases and the recognition that the escape edge of DPs is an A-, and not an A’-, position.
