An integrated system for computer-aided drafting and fault-tree evaluation for reliability analysis of power plant systems

This paper discusses the use of the Computer Aided Design Reliability Interactive Graphics System (CADRIGS) to construct or modify fault trees as well as to prepare other input data needed by power plant reliability codes. The hardware used by the system consists of an IBM 3250 terminal and an IBM 3278 terminal. The ten codes that can be interfaced with the CADRIGS system are WAMCUT, WAMCUT 2, COMPARE, FRANTIC, SWITCH, PREP, KITT-1, KITT-2, RANGE and IMPORTANCE. The availability of a proposed safety parameter display system (SPDS) was demonstrated to be in compliance with the requirements mandated in NUREG-0696 with the aid of CADRIGS. A similar analysis was performed for the auxiliary feedwater system (AFWS) of a typical PWR nuclear plant. It is concluded that CADRIGS preserves the logical relationships among components and enables automated input for avoidance of both random and systematic data transcription errors.
