SDRAM-Stackted Multimedia Application Core(MAC) System-in-Package Design

Cm Kyung Chong-Min Kyung, S. Na Sangkwon Na, J. Kim Jaemoon Kim · 2009

We propose SDRAM-stacked multimedia application core (MAC) system-in-package (SiP) design. Because recent mobile devices have small form factor, the area cost of application processors is one of the important design factors. Especially, multimedia application needs lots of storage elements, such as DRAM and SRAM. While many SRAMs can be embedded in a single die due to technology improvement, DRAMs are placed at off-chip on the same PCB (printed circuit board). We design MAC with SDRAM stacked using the SiP design technique. MAC has Xtensa LX processor [1] for audio signal processing and H.264/AVC decoder, VHCORE [2], for video decoding.
