Lehrs are long ovens in which glassware is annealed or decorated as it travels through on a continuous belt. The design and operation of the Smit lehr which requires only 200 to 600 cfh of natural gas fuel as compared with 4000 to 7000 cfh for a conventional decorating lehr and 700 to 1500 cfh for the same output in a conventional annealing lehr are discussed.
