Microprocessors are new and fascinating logic devices that are having pronounced effects upon our lives, finding wide ranging applications. In the electronic instrumentation field and in the related control systems and process control fields, the microprocessor has shown itself to have far more than just “substantial” promise. With the introduction of microprocessors in the instruments, trouble-shooting philosophy has undergone a drastic change. A time has come in many areas of electrical engineering when the working engineer must have good knowledge of microprocessor basics. Electronic instruments are of different types such as simple display instruments and calculating instruments, It is in the latter type that microprocessors have come in for immense use. With the advancements that are taking place, those in instrumentation field will have to be ever vigilant on the advances that are taking place both in instrument technology and equipment technology.
