Brave new sonic worlds
Stephen Joyce · Metro Magazine: Media & Education Magazine · 1996
A film or multimedia presentation is not about technology. No matter how impressive the effects, how bright the visuals or how loud the music, the medium itself is only part of a chain of events created to impart a story or an experience. Sifting through the myriad of tools and techniques available for multimedia production can be both awe-inspiring and all-consuming. Ever present is the danger of the process of production consuming the story, leaving in its wake yet another technologically brilliant but somehow, uninspiring experience. As the world interconnects and the price of media drops, production opportunities expand and we find ourselves in a brave new world of new experiences around every corner and seemingly with endless choices for sound production in our next project. Or do we?
