Continuous Moisture Determination Utilising lnfra Red Techniques

T. R. Wyatt, R. Cornish · 1979

In the iron and steel industry, infra red techniques offer a reliable and accurate means of measuring moisture in a wide range of raw materials. Several applications have been attempted at Newcastle B.H.P. Steelworks. Of these, the potential for moisture control of the Sinter Plant machine feed appears promising. The infra red unit tested provided a linear relationship between moisture and output signal. Regression analysis returned correlation co-efficients of better than 0.8 with standard deviations of lower than 0.15%. The analyser provides for accurate quality versus productivity trade-offs with none of the problems inherent in other systems.
