Comparison of Total Received Power and Mean Effective Gain for Mobile Handsets

This work compares different methods for performance evaluation of mobile handsets. The total radiated power (TRP) and Total Receiver Sensitivity (TRS) are compared with the more general mean effective gain (MEG) which is more realistic since it incorporates information about channel attenuation as function of direction, as well as polarization properties. Although some similarites were found, the results show that the TRP and TRS may be misleading by many dB’s compared to the MEG.
