An Analysis of Emotional Speech Using Distribution Chart of F0

The goal of the present study was to investigate the change of F? contours over the utterance between different emotional states (happiness, sadness, anger) of a speaker. Six professional actors (3 male & 3 female) were used for the recordings. The results showed that speakers primarily used 1) overall range, 2) maximum/minimum value, and 3) F? cue modes to signal their emotional status to listeners. For example, the range of F? tended to increase for all emotional speech compared to normal speech, although the degree of the F? range increase varied depending on the emotional state. The result also suggested that the ending boundary tones conveyed emotional state information of the entire speech
