In this paper, we propose a methodology, called ARDev, based on Scrum principles to support research management. We evaluate the use of ARDev in two case studies of software technologies in order to discuss the methodological challenges involved in a research project and to provide support for others who conduct research on emerging technologies. From the case studies, we extracted insights according to the documentation analysis and participant observation. Finally, we used metrics to assess the productivity and impact of ARDev in the case studies. This paper concludes that ARDev can help to conduct all research cycle phases, thus indicating the feasibility of the Scrum principles in the research context.
