Santa Fe Drilling Co. operates a shallow-drilling, wheel-mounted rig active in Venezuela that cuts an average of 1300 ft of hole/day; has moved with the mast up as far as 50 miles between locations; and has averaged 3.2 hr from release at one well to spudding at the next. The mechanical-drive unit (capable of drilling down to 9000 ft) Santa Fe's Rig 129, is described.
