Evaluation of Rapid RiderWeight Shifting Behavior for a Stand-riding-type Self-Balancing Personal Mobility Vehicle

We evaluated a rider behavior during emergency braking and examined the potential influence of the behavior on braking performance of a stand-riding-type self-balancing personal mobility vehicle(PMV). We constructed the experimental equipment with an unstable boarding plate and a handle that imitate a self-balancing PMV and developed a rapid weight-shifting training tool. The experimental results indicated that the dead time until a subject responds and a reverse reaction moving the center of pressure(COP) forward not backward, may delay deceleration of a PMV. It was also observed that gripping a handle and low rotational stiffness of a boarding plate increased this reverse reaction.
