A Pragmatical Study on Conjunction Deletion

The primary function of a conjunction is to connect words, phrases or other grammatical constructions in a sentence or between two paragraphs. However, having examined a large amount of English text, we find that the deletion of a conjunction occurs quite often and there are devices that will otherwise provide appropriate linking function. In this article, the author will discuss conjunction deletion with implicature connectives; namely asyndetic connection, parallel connection, sequential connection, and idiom usage of implicature connectives. The discussion will include phrase, clause, and sentence level conjunction linking functions. The linking functions of the conjunction will be limited in this paper to phrase, clause, and sentence levels instead of the discourse connectives between paragraphs.
