When the personal computer first ushered in desktop computing a few short years ago, no one expected supercomputer performance at that level any time soon. But now supercomputer power on a desk is at hand, thanks to what can now be packed onto a single board of very large-scale integrated circuits. Sky Computers Inc. is launching the 64-bit Vortex vector accelerator that it claims will let personal computers and work stations hold their own against minisupercomputers costing up to $1,000,000.
