Learning anaemia by exploring correlation of basic sciences with clinical laboratory reports in physiology

In the traditional curriculum there is hardly any exposure of clinical subjects in any form to the preclinical students in any of the three subjects of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. At the same time students strive hard to have clinical material in some or the other form. Clinical and applied knowledge if given to students, increase their interest in the subject and at the same time gives them practical information and helps them to integrate theory with application. Due to this we at NKPSIMS & RC Nagpur thought of teaching typing of anaemia to the students by giving actual laboratory reports for the calculation of absolute indices and identification of the type of anaemia. It was a form of early clinical exposure for the preclinical students.
