Establishing coding conventions for computer science courses
Jody Paul, David C. Kramer · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2014
Primary benefits of having an established coding convention for computer science courses and across a computer science curriculum include better student experiences through enhanced code quality and improved assessments of programming assignments. Despite these benefits, formal conventions in academe are rarely established because they require significant time and effort to coordinate agreement, specify unambiguously, and enforce adherence. Participants will engage in guided collaboration and hands-on development of coding conventions for their classes and academic programs. Presenters will provide informational resources, supply foundational content, share their experiences and insights, and facilitate collaboration and exchange of ideas for the development and ongoing management of coding standards appropriate to the academic setting.
