FlexRFID: A Control Logic Architecture for Fast and Flexible RFID-Based System Design

Arijit Sengupta · SSRN Electronic Journal · 2008

FlexRFID is our solution to the general problem of resource time tracking, the problem of tracking the time a resource is utilized. This architecture is based on the premise that all RTT applications have some items of interest in common. One such item is the identity of the resources being tracked, and a second is a set of locations that mark the regions where the devices are to be tracked. As a ground rule, sensor devices are positioned appropriately at entry and exit points of these locations to allow detection the resource as it passes through. The heart of RTT applications is a network of sensor devices, which generates the sensor event information, passed through direct cable connections or through the network to the middleware. At the middleware level, the data generated from the sensor events is managed, the most important among them being detection of tags at in and out regions. Some decisions can be made at the middleware level, although it may be necessary for the middleware to communicate with the user application level to verify identities and perform actions based on specific events.
