Linking local systems in the USA; current developments
Richard E. Luce · The Australian Library Journal · 2013
Efforts to link dissimilar computer systems in the USA have focused attention on national Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) efforts. The paper discusses the relationship between national efforts such as Linked Systems Project (LSP) and developments related to OSI implementation on local systems, such as IRVING and SEFLINK. The IRVING Network provides a working solution to linking local systems and the potential for transition to full OSI capability at a later date. SEFLINK, a similar implementation emphasizing telecommunication connections in South Florida is also discussed.
