Project-oriented Courses in Scientific Computing with Applications from Natural Sciences and Engineering
Anders Sjöberg · 1996
We have for some years run a pedagogical project of inter-disciplinary character. We want to give the students majoring in Scientific Computing opportunities to apply their mathematical and computational tools and skills on real problems, mostly from natural sciences and engineering. We describe a systematic approach that needs a lot of planning effort and careful work, but which can give very useful contacts and platforms for further development of undergraduate education. We have created project-oriented courses as a framework for the pedagogical project. The students work on their projects in groups and have deadlines for the different parts of their work. They write a report of scientific style and they get trained in oral presentation.
