We demonstrate in the paper that mobility has great impactss on the QoS capabilities in wireless cellular networks. We also develop a system model to study to what extent the impacts will be, with focusing on the mobility model. We concern the parameters that determine the QoS capabilities of the system, including New Call Blocking Probability (Pb), Handoff Call Dropping Probability (Pd), Call Terminating Probability (Pt) and system overall Bandwidth Utilization Rate (BUR). We show in this paper that these parameters vary while mobility increases with different trends, but the effects are interactive. Since handoff calls are given a higher priority over new calls and GC mechanism is employed, our analysis shows that a mature wireless cellular network should make use of user's mobility characteristics and dynamically adjust its reservation threshold of the handoff call requests. Furthermore, we also make a simulation model which is closely realistic to the practical wireless cellular network, avoiding the shortcomings in the literatures which only use abstract channel concept to study the QoS capabilities of wireless cellular networks. Extensive simulation results validate our analysis.
