Webb's Web: Captchas, Consumers, Compliance and Competitions
Kerry Webb · Incite · 2006
The Captcha are the distorted images of text that one has to recognise and copy into a site before being allowed to proceed further. The idea is that they can only be decoded by humans and not by the automated processes that spammers use to collect addresses and other useful information. Website http://www.talis.com shows the results of the Mashing Up the Library 2006 competition where the Talis company sponsors the competitions and encourages libraries to extend the reach through the Web.
