Performance of TCP/IP for Real-time Traffic on an FDDl Backbone Interconnect
Hassan Mehrpour, SS Sethi · 1992
This paper assesses the performance of a typical commercially available implementation of the DoD TCP/IP protocol suite (Transport and Network) in an interconnected LAN environment. A laboratory model consisting of a backbone FDDI interconnected to IBM Token--ring and Ethernet is used to carry dissimilar traffic of voice and data. The throughput and delay on the gateways are measured and analysed. The aim of this investigation is to verify the applicability of the TCP/IP protocol suite (in an interconnected LAN environment) to real time traffic such as voice and video.
