Incorrect Responses to Unknown Messages Restricted in Word Frequency
Irwin W. Pollack · Language and Speech · 1962
Words, selected from a limited range of word frequency, were presented in noise to listeners. The distribution of word frequencies of the listeners' incorrect responses were determined. The median response frequency decreases with more favourable signal-to-noise ratios, as previously noted, but only when the word frequency of the presented words was lower than the overall median response word frequency.
