This work presents a knowledge acquisition method for fuzzy systems applied to pattern recognition problems. An improvement to an earlier version of this method (Evsukoff[3]) is proposed through the use of a clustering technique to generate the fiizzy partitions of the input space. An adaptation of the MountainClustering method (Yager[12]) was applied and two different approaches of clustering for generate the input fuzzy partitions have been developed. These clustering approaches were used with the supervised learning algorithm and were tested upon some classification problems found in the literature.
