Linear Approximation of Energy Ratio and Entropy in Maximum Entropy Model for Percussion Samples
Huimin Wang, Yaw-Chern Lee, Sheng‐Chieh Huang · 2010
Entropy is a state of disorder, confusion, and disorganization. The concepts of entropy and maximum entropy model have been widely used in science, engineering and music. The relationship of two musical features energy ratio (Er) and Entropy (Ep) has been studied in this work. Two approximate equations are proposed. Firstly, Er is close to Ep/Q while Q, the sampling bit number, is in 32 bits and 16 bits. Secondly, Er is close to (Ep/(Q-1))^2, Q=8 and Er belongs to the interval [0.2, 0.6]. These two equations are based on the satisfaction of maximum entropy model in percussion drum samples. In certain conditions, these two equations can effectively simplify the large amount of computation for entropy.
