Twitter Crawling Sentiment Analysis in Relation to Weather

Matthew R. Ballard · 2015

Twitter is an untapped resource of information and is limitless in its predictive potential. There are numerous studies that use Twitter data to determine trends within the stock market, consumer markets, sports, natural disaster events, and etc. Our study analyzes Twitter data to determine human emotion/sentiment changes depending on weather patterns in greater Louisville region. We utilize Stanford’s Sentiment Analysis library, publicly available weather data along with Twitter Application Programming Interface to decide positive and negative emotions/sentiments in Tweets. Mentor: Dr. Suranga Hettiarachchi, Department of Computer Science, Indiana University Southeast.
