Exploiting Cell-coverage for Voice Communication Using Combining Slow-frequency-hopping and Automatic-repeat-request Strategy

Yuh‐Shyan Chen, Jong-Ying Juang, Yun-Yun Cheng · 1999

Most of promising high-quality service for voice communication is to increase voice quality without affecting the cell coverage. A different aspect is presented in this paper by attempting to increase coverage without changing voice quality. This approach is to integrate the slow-frequency-hopping (SFH) and automatic-repeat-request (ARQ) techniques. The integration of SFH and ARQ can increase cell coverage without affecting the voice quality. The other contribution of this paper is to do a simulation process to show that integration of SFH and ARQ outperforms old system (SFH without using ARQ) when mobility rate is slow (i.e. indoor environment). The simulation result illustrates that cell coverage is indeed to increase by using integration of SFH and ARQ. That is, we vertify that SFH plus ARQ is necessary for the SWAP protocol (Shared Wireless Access Protocol).
