Missing a child frequently happens in a large amusement park or even in a crowed local festival. Paging the lost child has been used when such an incident happens in a public place. Also, people sometimes have their children wear a sort of identification pendant so that they can easily be identified by others when they are lost. However, these methods are not always very reliable because they are heavily dependent upon a prompt response from the child and/or the promptness and willingness of someone who has found the missing child. In this paper, we propose a child search system that shows the location of a missing child on a map of the festival site when he/she wears a specially designed pendant. Our system has been implemented using ZigBee, a wireless network technology that is often considered as one of low-cost, low-power digital radio solutions based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs).
