In recent years, the computer publishing industry is engrossed with meeting the customer demands for a large variety of books. The serious issue is on how to effectively understand and meet the users' demands. The proposed method made use of the Referential Hierarchical clustering Algorithm (RHA) to analyze the sale information of some computer publishing houses in Taiwan for 2005. Experimental results showed that books on Word Processing tend to be returned the most, while the best sales are for books on Network Applications and Graphic Tools. Experimental tests are also conducted to reorder the hierarchical clusters in RHA. Results showed that the reordering helped accelerate the analysis process of determining which books are best sellers and which ones are to be taken off-rack. The proposed method provides the publishing houses a new marketing strategy where customer demands can be effectively met with higher profits and more competitive.
