The ever-increasing growth of computer technologies, especially in hardware design, encourages many researchers to select the computer as an instructional tool. Most of the previous research in this area was concerned with building a package for specific topics. This approach made the use of computers more complex, as for each new topic we need a new design. This article addresses this problem by developing a powerful and flexible general-purpose tool that helps in building any tutoring system. This work presents the design and analysis of expandable and flexible tutoring packages based on intelligent agents. Agent-based programming methodology is used in designing the proposed system, in order to guarantee flexibility. Expandability is implied in a way that enables users to retrieve a prestored material, modify prestored material, or add new material. This article explains how intelligent software agents are used in designing to act on behalf of their human users to perform laborious information-gathering tasks. These tasks include locating and accessing information from various information sources, resolving inconsistencies in the retrieved information, and integrating information from heterogeneous information sources.
