STSIM: Semantic-web Based Tool to Student Instruction Monitoring
Héctor Yago Corral, Julia Clemente · 2014
In this article, a tool so-called STSIM is presented. It is able to monitor the student progress along learning experiences. The tool, based on semantic web, allows teachers and students monitoring the knowledge student state including, among others, the learning objective state -achieved and not achieved- in different types of activities with psychomotors, cognitives or affective competences, and the efficiency accomplished in activity execution to facilitate the tutor or student the supervision of learning in a more adaptive way according to the individual characteristics and student knowledge state in each moment. To achieve this goal, STSIM uses a flexible student model supported by an ontology network, the \textit{Student Ontology}. The tool has been developped to be multiplatform, multilingual, based on current and open source web technology and characterized by its usability. STSIM is built on the UML-based web engineering (UWE) methodology and the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern.
