Role-splitting in a Traffic Control System

A L Marshall, F T Hartley · 1977

A method is presented for achieving major cost reductions in systems which are employed in large numbers and where operator interactions are infrequent but operator facilities represent a major fraction of the cost. A simple communication link allows the operator facilities to be split off into a separate portable unit required in much smaller numbers. The use of a microprocessor in each of the two units makes this approach feasible and also provides much more capacity and flexibility in the total system.
