A Cross Assembly Technique for Microprocessors
F Lewin · 1977
In the prototype development phase of stand-alone microprocessor applications, the designer frequently needs to re-assemble relatively small programs a number of times. The size of the program may be such as to make hand-assembly tedious, yet not warrant the purchase of a full microprocessor development system capable of supporting a resident assembler. The paper describes a general technique whereby a medium-sized minicomputer system may be used to assemble arbitrary microprocessor code. The system accepts source input language statements, including macro-commands, in a format close to that of the manufacturer's standard, and produces assembly listings, diagnostics, symbol cross-references as well as compatible object code for direct loading into the target microprocessor.
