Recent accomplishments and developments in the area of optimization of computer communication networks are described, analyzed and criticized. Experimental and simulation results are presented. A large number of articles is surveyed, numerous examples and case studies are considered. Research focuses of five topics in the Computer Communucation area: Congestion Control in Computer Communication Networks; Optimization of Routing Algorithms; features and performance issues of the Local Area Networks; integration of voice and data over common Communication Network; resource allocation and task scheduling in the Network Computers. The performance of the considered algorithms is analyzed in terms of delay-throughput characteristics, total system throughput, average network delay, power and blocking probabilities. For routing algorithms such characteristics as stability, traffic types, convergence and speed of convergence are of interest.
