A positive approach to towards legislation and stock theft : industry issues
Isabel Kruger · Stockfarm · 2014
Stock theft in South Africa cannot be ascribed only to a lack of proper legislation. Often the problem can be lain at the feet of industry role-players who fail to enforce the relevant legislation. The control of stock theft in South Africa is supported by several pieces of legislation. The most applicable of these is the Stock Theft Act (Act 57 of 1959) and the Animal Identification Act (Act 6 of 2002). The best example of how this legislation and the application thereof has contributed to the control of stock theft, is the acceptance of the Animal Identification Act.
