Constructing and defining technical diagrams used in software engineering projects
Edward J. Mirielli · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2012
Software engineering and development projects can be viewed as primarily a problem-solving activity. Inherent to successful problem-solving in this field is the ability to abstract complexity and effectively communicate solution plans to others. An exploration of visual modeling using a variety of diagrams can provide a structured approach for students to relate problem-solving and communication as part of systems analysis and design process. This exploration can lead to better student comprehension of the modeling process in general and creation of more effective diagrams. By first concentrating on the accuracy in the use of diagram symbols and diagram use, the long term outcome is better prepared students who are ready for more advanced client, or project-centered work. This nifty assignment focuses on constructing technical diagram using an active-learning or laboratory approach suitable for students enrolled in their first systems analysis and design or software engineering course.
