SYNTESIS - an Intelligent Support System for Specifying Line Signalling Systems

Myh Lim, LN Jackson · Australian Software Engineering Conference · 1990

This paper presents an application of expert systems technology to the development of a software tool for the requirements specification of line signalling schemes for SPC (Stored Program Control) telephone exchanges. The system under development uses knowledge representation as the basis for requirements specification and the CClTT Specification and Description Language (SDL) as a vehicle to express user requirements as formal specifications. The tool when integrated with an automatic code generation system, can synthesize target source programs from such specifications. The use of object-oriented approaches to the modelling, design and implementation of the tool is also discussed and the advantages of using this approach for knowledge representation and programming emphasized.
