Service-oriented network trends become more and more popular with network providing new and innovative type of services that require various levels of QoS performance and reliability. Internetworking technology also evolves from single service network (SSN) to multiservice network (MSN) infrastructure in order to simplify network operation and management. However, more resource sharing exposes significant negative impacts upon end-users who access services inside MSN. As a result, an efficient evaluation of the reliability from the user perspective is indispensable for designing the reliable service network. In this paper, we analyze the existing topological-related reliability measurement metrics inside the current MSN environment firstly and we claim that they are inadequate since they only consider network reliability from the system perspective that does not reflect the actual user point of view. Then we propose a new measurement metric, which is suitable for the user perspective reliability analysis for MSN. The evaluation section demonstrates that our proposed metric is more reasonable and efficient for user perspective reliability analysis in the current MSN environment than the existing analysis metrics.
