Optimization of MP3 decoder from FFmpeg multimedia framework for MIPS32R2 architectures

Nedeljko Babic, Teodora Novković, Branimir Vasić · 2015

Since FFmpeg multimedial framework is finding more and more use even in most diverse handheld devices, there is a constant need for improving libraries that are part of it. In this work technics that are used for optimization of one of the most widespread audio format for transfer and storage of digital sound - MP3 decoder for 74K MIPS32R2 architecture are described. This is RISC architecture and these technics can be more or less used for optimization of other audio and video codecs on different RISC architectures. In this work use of instructions from DSP extensions for optimization is not described although these extensions are supported by 74K MIPS32R2 architecture.
