Thermal Compensation in Measurement: Its Application in Fitting Bearings to Journals in North American Railroads
W. J. Wachtler · 1992
When improved fits between the journal of railroad axles and the cone of the roller bearings were mandated by the AAR no cost effective measurement system existed. Application of precision electronic measuring systems and thermally responsive electronic circuits to eliminate the impact of temperature variations on electronic measuring system accuracy was developed. This technology was first applied in the railroad industry for axle journal and bearing cone measurement.
